Improvements

Have been a bit busy lately since I'm rebuilding the kitchen, and also been playing some on my new laptop.
Have done some new things in the game though. Mostly fix so that Manage Region and Manage Army works better. Added a lot of code to check which improvements and armies that the user is allowed to build. Some regions can't build certain improvements and some improvements/armies requires other improvements to be built first.
The other day I was at Toys'R'Us and found some toys that gave me some ideas. It was a kind of action figures that mixed vikings and fantasy. It was the kind of look that I had in my head already but was cool to see it like that. There were sea monsters, mammoth riders, polar bears and so on.
Also got some other new ideas. I'm thinking of introducing two more resources: Treasure Items and Slaves. Mostly these can only be acquired by trading and fighting. The wont follow the normal rules for resources so maybe have to introduce a new type. Treasure Items can be used to raise moral. Either in the region or for an army. If the player can't afford to give the army enough resources they will grow angry. If they do, the player can bribe them with treasures (and maybe slaves) to keep them happy. Treasures and slaves can also be used for sacrifices to the gods.

  1. Nice ideas for Army Morale. Not sure about the modern day "political correctness" of giving the lads female slaves, but it all depends on the game's target audience. The other issue is might the Army be vulnerable if they were caught out by the enemy napping with their slaves ?

  2. Thanks for the comment. I don't care about political correctness though and since it's a game made for fun there's no target audience really. The viking age were cruel and the game will reflect that. Slaves where common and the owner could do anything to a slave.
    I'm thinking of adding some level of cruelness where the crueler the player is the more scared opponents are of them. But of course, that might limit trade on the other hand.

  3. Daniel, I agree. If this is a Vikings game, then there will be massive doses of agressive nastiness, total degrading of the female folk, and pillaging a plenty. There is a lot to consider, apart form just the technical "build" side of things.

    As for me, I'm a beginner-boy gamer programmer, working on a little kick goals in soccer game in Actionscript 3.0. Hopefully it might be available to play on my blog after the weekend.

  4. That sounds cool. I'm program webapplications for a living, but always been interested in doings games. Have no education in it, so just doing it for fun.
